Our volunteers have weekends free, and we encourage you to travel and discover all that Peru has to offer!  Below are some of the most common destinations volunteers travel to on their weekends off or after the program.  NB: Weekend travel is optional and not included in the cost of the program.

Chiclayo

Check out the Royal Tombs of Sipán, the richest tomb ever discovered in the Americas.  Then, take your time to relax in La Ciudad de la Amistad  and enjoy Chiclayo’s beautiful beaches.

Pacasmayo

Enjoy a day trip to Pacasmayo to get out of the city, surf world-class waves, eat fresh seafood and ceviche, check out the local dancing scene and relax.

Huaraz

Trekkers come from all over the world to Peruvian Andes at their finest in the Cordillera Blanca outside of Huaraz.  Guided climbs, treks, guided bike tours, ruins of Chavín de Huantar and Yungay, a city buried by an avalanche.

Cajamarca

Explore the historical and breathtaking Cajamarca, where the Inca offered the Spanish a room filled with gold.  It is a charming Andean city, but don’t miss the beautiful rock formations at Cumbe Mayo and natural hot springs where the Inca Atahualpa once bathed at Baños del Inca.

Máncora

Enjoy a trip to Máncora to take in the sun and surf.  Enjoy warm weather year-round and learn to kite-surf or surf!

Chachapoyas

Visit the third tallest waterfall in the world, pre-incan ruins of one the strongest and most mysterious cultures in Peru and enjoy both the Andes and the Rainforest in this wonderful quaint town.
