Volunteer Programs

IMPACT communities in need.
Volunteers are crucial to our work in Peru. Their time, energy and commitment to the communities we serve makes our long-term projects possible. We work closely with local community institutions, clubs and organizations to identify the needs of the community and design together with them sustainable projects aimed at having a long-term impact. Although volunteers stay only 3-9 weeks at a time, volunteers fit into a long-term plan developed by local organizations and VivePerú staff. In addition, a portion of the funds they fundraise for their trip go to support projects in the community that will continue long after they have left. Activities such as health education campaigns, medical campaigns and English and music workshops wouldn't be possible without the time and dedication of our talented volunteers. EXPERIENCE the Peruvian way of life.
We believe that in order to have a positive impact, volunteers must first understand the culture of the people they are serving. That is why all of our volunteer programs are preceded by a cultural orientation before work at volunteer sites begins. During orientation, volunteers will be introduced to Peruvian cuisine, traditional dances, local pastimes, and the country's cultural and archaeological treasures. Volunteers will continue to delve into the the culture throughout the program while staying with their Peruvian host families. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to practice their language skills, learn more about the culture, and try lots of delicious food! Many program participants cite their host families as one of the best parts of their experience and keep in touch with them long after the program ends.

GROW as a professional.
Many volunteers use VivePerú programs as a stepping stone to their future careers. Many clinical medicine volunteers find they are able to interact with patients in Peru in a way they would not be able to in the United States and are able to confirm their vocations to the medical profession. Others use our programs as a vital step on the way to careers in public health and global development. Some volunteers find their experience with VivePerú prepares them for the Peace Corps and other long-term service opportunities abroad. Whether your goal may be to gain experience working with young people, to learn to use your language skills in a practical work environment, or to interact hands-on with patients in a clinical setting, our programs will give you the opportunity to work hands on and challenge you to broaden your perspective to see your career goals from a whole new point of view.
