Engineering volunteers will work together with Vive Peru engineers to create a wireless long distance link to provide communities in rural areas with low-cost access to internet. These communities will be communities who would otherwise not receive access to the internet, as it is not profitable for large-scale corporations. Volunteers will participate in all steps of the process, including design, installation of wireless towers, networking, cabling, router configuration, IP protocols and hands-on training for the community regarding computer assembly, formatting and other routine maintenance procedures. They will have the opportunity to participate every stage of the project, from beginning to completion, and have a completed project as a team upon leaving Peru. No technical knowledge is needed, although an interest in engineering and networking is recommended. Volunteers will also participate in training the local community in computing skills and simple computer repair.
**The Engineering Program is currently only being offered in the city of Trujillo.
